Local Farms
Residents have passionately protected New Milford’s farming heritage. In 2006, the New Milford Farmland & Forest Preservation Committee was established. It’s charged with preserving working farmlands with funding support from the Town, individuals, and the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Preservation of Development Rights (PDR) Program. The Preservation Committee created and succeeded in implementing New Milford’s right-to-farm ordinance, the first in Litchfield County and the second in Connecticut.
The Town has nearly 2,700 acres supporting various agricultural, livestock and dairy initiatives.
