New Milford Residents Benefit from Robust Healthcare Infrastructure

For over a century, New Milford Hospital has steadfastly served the Town, earning its position as a cornerstone of the community. As a constituent of Nuvance Health, a network encompassing seven community hospitals and an array of outpatient facilities across Western Connecticut and the Hudson Valley, the hospital offers an extensive medical consortium.

With more than 80 physicians spanning 38 specialized fields, ranging from orthopedics and cardiology to pediatrics, patients find themselves in compassionate and capable hands. The hospital’s Emergency Department distinguishes itself through its compassionate environment, featuring verdant, sustainable spaces and individualized patient quarters.

Residents rely on state-of-the-art care through The Cancer Institute, The Neuroscience Institute, The Heart and Vascular Institute, The Digestive Health Institute, and Primary Care. The Plow to Plate initiative transformed the hospital’s Dining Services by eliminating processed and fried foods, training kitchen staff to cook from scratch, and procuring local produce when possible. 

RVNAhealth, a unified healthcare agency, extends its services across 36 communities, facilitating a seamless continuum of community and home healthcare, hospice, and public health provisions. This consolidated effort ensures that residents receive comprehensive and consistent medical support, regardless of their specific healthcare needs.

Addressing the vital need for accessible transportation, the WHEELS Program of Greater New Milford provides donation-based rides to non-emergency medical appointments. A significant feature of this program is the wheelchair-accessible bus, tailored to accommodate standard-size wheelchairs, amplifying inclusivity and ensuring equitable medical mobility for all.

New Milford is home to several long-term health care facilities offering a broad range of services, including, but not limited to: Post Acute Care, Short Term Inpatient/Outpatient Rehabilitation,  Long Term Skilled Nursing and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive conditions. In addition, residents can receive nursing and non-medical care at home from several local agencies.  

The Housatonic Valley Health District serves New Milford, Oxford, Sharon, Southbury, Washington, and Woodbury. It promotes the highest attainable standard of healthaccomplished through prevention, education, and outreach. HVHD prevents disease, injury, and disability for their community through regular inspections of public and private businesses and homes to ensure conditions exist where people can be healthy. HVHD uses education to inform the public and health practitioners on public health best practices, policy information, and the impacts and methods of prevention for the spread of communicable diseases. HVHD conducts outreach to engage their communities that experience obstacles in accessing the public health services they need, deliver vaccines to the community, and advocate for needed and beneficial health policies.
